The Mark of Tyranny
The Dawn War
“Mountains rose, canyons were opened, and the ocean was split by land. Holy fire cleansed the land, only to be doused by torrential winds and rains. Creatures were created, destroyed, and recreated. Or at least, that’s how the captive djinn describes it.” Nibenay on his studies of the Dawn War.
The Dawn War was the war at the dawn of the creation of Athas, between the Gods of what became The Grey and the Primordials of The Elemental Chaos. Lasting for centuries, the gods and primordials created hundreds of creatures and races to serve them in their constant conflicts, with gods and primordials alike dying off as their realms were overrun.
As the gods began to falter, they began attempting to imprison primordials, rather than expend the energy to kill them. The gods succeeded in binding away numerous primordials, but it was too little, too late, and the remaining gods succumbed to the assaults of the primordial forces, with Lolth and Moradin being the last to fall. With the gods defeated, the primordials submerged back into the Elemental Chaos, leaving their servants and creations on Athas.
